It's not everyday you get an email from one of the world's leading phone manufacturers to help them celebrate Easter but that's what happened last week. For a special holiday treat for its social media channels Nokia wanted to produce a video showing off 3D printing, with a chocolatey Nokia twist, and so they turned to Choc Edge for some help.

Because Nokia wanted to mass produce something that also provided a substantial bite of chocolate we decided to print the Nokia logo. Over 30 were printed over the course of the Thursday before Good Friday and distributed to influential bloggers. The process was filmed and Choc Edge designer Mark Jones was interviewed to make the video.

Although one of our most ambitious events yet everything went without a hitch and the video provides a great demonstration of the Choc Creator V1 in action.

Inevitably the hashtag used for the campaign was "#Chokia" and the video seemed to generate a good response from the tech community with coverage on phone blogs and 3D printing sites.

In the future we hope to be able to print a 3D Lumia phone, to show off the printer's full 3D capabilities.

At the end of March Exeter's Westpoint arena was host to The Big Cake Show, and Choc Edge was there to add a technological twist.

The Big Cake Show is an event which sees professional cake-makers and baking enthusiasts gather from all over the UK to celebrate the art of cake making. We were there to show the potential of the Choc Creator V1 as a cake decorating machine.

A number of celebrity chefs were in attendance including Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, and we even got to present Mary with a printout of her face in chocolate.

The reaction from the crowds was overwhelmingly positive with people genuinely amazed at what the machine could do. We had two printers on the go simultaneously and even managed to do some designs on the fly.

It was a really exciting event and great to see the public's reaction for the first time. The most popular print of the weekend was probably Mary Berry, even if a lot of people mistook for a certain Iron Lady who wasn't quite so sweet!

Valentine’s Day 2014 was a special one for Choc Edge as we were asked to appear on the The One Show, in a segment about printing on confectionery. Dr Liang Hao, along with Choc Edge team members Adilet and Mark, headed up to the One Show studios in London to film a Choc Creator printing images of Torvill and Dean to be presented to them on the show.

Jane Torvill Face Portrait

With only 24 hours notice given on Thursday 13 before we had to be at the BBC everyone worked together to make sure that everything went smoothly and was ready in time for filming on the following afternoon. The chocolate printouts were successful and although Torvill and Dean only saw them on the monitors on the show there was a chance to present their portraits to them afterwards.

A time lapse video of each of the portraits being printed was shown, accompanied by a sped up version of Boléro, before Torvill and Dean saw the end result. Their reactions were positive and they seemed impressed with the technology. Although our segment was short it was a great opportunity to show off our technology to an audience of millions.

Afterwards pictures were taken with both the presenters and Torvill and Dean, and the Choc Edge team even got to sit on the One Show couch!
